A Hell of a View
“You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice in how you view it.” - Chris Pine
On New Year’s Day a helicopter landed in our first meadow and took Bradley, Carter, and Miles on an epic tour of Scott Valley and other areas in Siskiyou County. They were able to view where they’ve lived their entire lives from an entirely different perspective. Bradley would text ahead to friends and they would come out of their houses running, smiling, and waving. The same amount of love and friendship remained, but everyone saw each other from a new lens. It’s amazing how wonderful and carefree everything can feel, look, and seem from above on a bluebird day.
Just a few days before Christmas Miles had his routine MRI scans in Portland. We were devastated to discover that there is a new growth in the area where the original brain tumor was removed. The oncologist told us that if this is a recurrence that there is no cure, but that we can take measures to essentially buy time. The first of these measures is likely another brain surgery which is absolutely unfathomable at this time. Miles understands what the scans revealed and his spirit shines brighter than ever.
He’s been snowboarding in three feet of fresh powder, ran a five mile holiday race, continues to build Legos to his heart’s content, enjoys his friends and has run/pogo sticked around the property outside.
We can’t control our situation, but we can control our perspective and while Miles’s can’t quite articulate his view - his actions speak louder than any words can.
We aren’t done fighting.
This isn’t our final chapter.
We’re still believing, still moving this mountain, and still adjusting our perspectives.
