Nov 26 - Turkey Trot
Sixteen years ago on Thanksgiving morning a small group of people in Scott Valley from all different walks of life and generations joined together for the one thing they all had in common - their love to run.
Since that time the Scott Valley Turkey Trot has become a tradition for many families. Although it’s purpose is to financially support the two elementary schools in our community - perhaps the most important thing it does is provide an opportunity for fellowship and fitness for families. Old, young, walkers, runners, and joggers.
Due to COVID guidelines and in the best interest safety - this year’s official trot was not held. However many veterans took to the course this morning.
Last year Miles decided early on in the year that he was going to run the six mile Turkey Trot. I was able to run with him and as the miles got tougher so did he. The then third grader repeated his teacher Mrs. Barb Berry Thackeray’s teaching - “Without struggle there is no progress”.
Little did we know that a year later we would be running an even tougher race - perhaps repeating the same words and with thankful hearts.
