When Heroes Meet

One of our favorite things to do as a family since the boys were babies has been to spend the weekend in the Bay and go to a San Francisco Giant’s game.

This team has been very good to us over the last two years since Miles’s diagnosis. Personalized letters, signed baseballs, phone calls from Buster Posey, and an immense amount of support. This past week they reached out to us and invited us to attend the game. We weren’t sure if we would be able to but we made it happen and relished every single second together as a family doing something that we love. We had a field visit in which a hero to our boys, Brandon Crawford, and other players or broadcasters, came out to talk to the boys and also sign some balls. Crawfrod even put on a SmilesForMiles bracelet and wore it during the game. We were hosted at a cloud club level complete with enough food to satisfy Miles’s steroid induced appetite.

When heroes meet.

They even put us up at a hotel across from the park. It will likely be the last time our family experiences something that we love together - but it’s not every day that heroes meet each other on the field.

Before we hit the road for the Bay, Miles was crowned Homecoming King by our student body at Friday night’s game as he accompanied his cousin and senior Princess Shelby onto the field.

I couldn’t be more proud of the students at Etna High School for their love and support of our family. As their principal - I have taken a leave of absence to enjoy every moment we still have with Miles. Tonight is one of a million reasons that I miss them all so much.

It’s not often you get to take to two different fields in the same weekend and be acknowledged for the hero that you are.
