For my club, my community, my country, and my world.

Last week Miles, Carter, family, donors and members of their 4H club were invited to tour the new Asante Pavilion construction site. A facility that their club has helped to support financially in honor of Miles. Many of the young 4H members in Scott Valley clubs donated their own money from their fair animals.

The 4H creed is recited by every member at each meeting and reads: “I pledge: My Head to clearer thinking, My Heart to greater loyalty, My Hands to larger service, and My Health to better living, For my club, my community, my country, and my world.”

These young kids and others not able to attend have set an excellent example of what this creed promises - for giving back to their community. Asante has meant so much to our family as we have been on this journey with Miles. Today was nothing short of incredible. Miles was gifted his very own construction helmet which was personalized with many things including #scottvalleystrong. During the tour they were each given a small plaque that they were able to personalize and place within the walls of the new pediatric oncology center. These plaques will remain there as long as the building stands.

The tour ended with all of the construction workers on site taking a break and applauding for all of the kids. Miles was given several stickers by many of the workers. It wasn’t until after the tour that we were made aware of the symbolic nature of these stickers. They are earned - not given within the brotherhood of their trades.

Those stickers quickly made their way to his new helmet. As he heads back into battle next week at Asante to receive chemo - you can bet the helmet might go with him.
