JAN 31 - MILES & CHARLIE
Early on in Miles’s diagnosis we chose to view all of this as an adventure. We didn’t foresee how much of this adventure would involve supporting Miles’s mental health as he moves this mountain.
We have found the best therapy for him has fur and four legs. The happiest he’s been since September has been when he has spent time with his new best friend “Charlie” - a labradoodle puppy. He’s hesitant to meet any new medical staff - but they all quickly learn the way to his heart is to ask about his other dog Mary or for a picture of Charlie the puppy.
Charlie will be able to come home with us soon and Miles is hoping that she will be trained to be a great hunting dog and his emotional service dog.
Until she can be in the hospital with him - Charlie’s mom had a stuffed version of Charlie made for Miles so that he can always be comforted by her on all of his adventures.
The stuffed animal arrived at the hospital today and sure lifted his spirits.
He’s feeling much better today after his transfusion last night. Unfortunately all of his blood counts are still really low so he is receiving two more transfusions tonight.
He’s moving the mountain right now - with Charlie by his side.
