Nov 12 - Adventure

Miles and I try to do “something” to create adventure every day. One day this week we just walked to a bakery. Another day we went down to the lake. His appetite is currently hard to please so if he says he wants to eat something specific - we find it. Today after feeling crummy he first wanted a sub- but then decided fish and chips sounded good. We took an adventure to a neighboring town and found a local spot.

Miles walked confidently up to order and inquired if any of the menu included beer battered fish. The folks working behind the counter were impressed with his knowledge of batters. I think they were also impressed with his appetite as he ate two orders of calimari, one order of fish, and a chocolate milkshake.

As we were eating the owner came to talk to him. She asked how he knew so much about fish batter at such a young age. She also asked him where he was from and soon she realized the “big picture” of why we were in Seattle, but also why our adventure had taken us to her restauarant.

After our visit she returned to the table with a printed/signed certificate allowing him a free milkshake anytime he decided to come back.

Just when I think we can’t miss home any more - we find kindness and a sense of community. I guess you just have to inquire about the specific batter for your fish and chips-and have a big appetite.
