A Visit to the Caring Cabin
When your child goes through cancer you continue to fight for their life - but also their spirit. Even though Miles has lost a part of his childhood over these last nine months we continue to be blessed with opportunities to foster his spirit and build memories.
This past week we were able to travel to Pacific City on the Oregon coast and stay at the Alexandra Ellis Caring Cabin. "Cabin" is a bit of a misnomer in describing this elaborate 4,000 square foot home built by dreamers to be used free of charge by children going through cancer and their families.
Besides boogie boarding, roasting marshmallows, playing in the sand, racing up dunes on foot, and eating good food - Miles was also given the opportunity to place his own rock along a path on the property. The rock was engraved with his name and the year. He received one to place and one to take home.
The morning that we placed his rock was very emotional. We walked the path and took time to read hundreds of names of children - all fighting for their lives, all who have lost part of their childhood.
Lucky for Miles and for all of those children and their family experiences like staying at the Caring Cabin allow their spirits an opportunity to rally and a chance to flourish.
