Grey in May
Miles and his Papa John were featured by OHSU Doernbecher for their “Go Grey in May” brain cancer awareness platform. Another tragic privilege of sharing this bond.
“Lean into your people hard and don’t be afraid to ask for help. We would not be able to support Miles on his journey without family, friends, social workers, Child Life specialists and our community.”
–Joy, mom to 10-year-old Miles
Last October, Miles was diagnosed with medulloblastoma. He had his resection at OHSU Doernbecher and is currently undergoing six rounds of inpatient chemotherapy in Southern Oregon. In an awful coincidence, Miles’ grandfather, John (pictured here), is also receiving treatment for brain cancer at OHSU.
Living in rural Northern California means each appointment Miles attends requires four hours of driving, and each round of chemo has required multiple blood transfusions.
“These kids are forced to battle with tools that can bring grown men and women to their knees,” Joy said. “Raising awareness about pediatric brain tumors is very important to us – they are more common than people realize and can affect any child.”
We hope you’ll join Miles, John, Joy and many others in raising awareness about brain tumors via our #GoGrayInMay campaign.
