Miracle Kid
Earlier this year Miles was asked by the Asante Forward Campaign and the Asante Foundation to be their 2022 Miracle Kid. A Miracle Kid’s story helps the fundraising campaigns in their efforts to secure the $200 million needed in donations to complete the $450 million dollar project which will be the Ohlsrud Family Women’s and Children’s Pavilion - a start of the art extension to the hospital in Medford Oregon dedicated to women, children, and specifically pediatric cancer.
Miles’s fight for his life is story in and of itself - but being able to show how Asante has helped us fight for his spirit as it allows us to be as close to home as possible all make him a true shoe in for a Miracle Kid. But the part of the story that brings it all home is that after this year’s fair Miles, Carter and their 4H club have donated over $25K of their hard earned money.
This video was shown at this year’s gala and then our family was called to the stage where we received a standing ovation from over 800 people. Miles helped the auctioneer throughout the night and records were broken. Raising over 3 million dollars in one night. One person even standing up to give a million in a paddle raise. The paddle raise portion of the evening ended with a “Match Miles” paddle raise - asking people to match Miles’s intital donation of $1,500. Over 100 people stood up to Match Miles.
The evening ended with him on stage with a live band singing Don’t Stop Believing. And we won’t.
We are still navigating the potential start of a trial at Stanford with “easy chemo” bi weekly in the meantime. Unfortunately, a third tumor was discovered by the Stanford radiologist and his up close vision is blurry, but he started school this week and ended another weekend evening singing Don’t Stop Believing with another live musician after an amazing party with friends.
